Forest Lake is a city in Washington County, Minnesota. It is located on a lake of the same name, part of the drainage basin of the Sunrise River. Interstate 35 and U.S. Routes 8 and 61 are three of the main arterial routes in the city. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (11.0 kmē), of which, 4.2 square miles (10.9 kmē) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 kmē) of it (1.18%) is water. The elevation is 912 ft (278 m).

There were 2,805 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 30.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $44,419, and the median income for a family was $52,898. Males had a median income of $38,333 versus $26,028 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,058. About 4.1% of families and 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.9% of those under age 18 and 11.2% of those age 65 or over.
