Forestville was once a rural trade center. Area farmers came to Forestville to trade their produce for goods and services. However, when the railroad by-passed the town in 1868, it struggled to survive. By 1890, Thomas Meighen, son of one of the town's founders, owned the entire village. The town's 50 residents made their living on his farm, working for housing and credit in the Meighen store.

Visit Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park to see natural wonders above and below ground. In the summer, beat the heat with a visit below ground. Explore the world of Mystery Cave with its stalactites, stalagmites, and underground pools. Park naturalists provide tours of the cave throughout the summer and on weekends in the spring and fall. The temperature stays at a constant 48 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fish three blue-ribbon trout streams for brown trout. Take in the soft pastels of wildflowers in spring or listen to ruffed grouse drumming and wild turkeys gobbling. Hike or bring your horse to ride the ridge tops and stream valleys. Observe interesting geologic features along the way including sinkholes and dramatic Big Spring. In the fall, don't miss the bold colors of the forest. Winter invites visitors to ski or snowmobile the Bluff Country.

Preston Golf & Country Club is a beautiful and challenging 9 hole course on rolling hills in southeastern Minnesota. The course is fully irrigated so plan to spend some hot summer days enjoying the game of golf. Tee times are not required. Please check our calendar for special events but you will rarely experience a wait time.

Rivers Bend is our 18-hole golf course facility located right on the property. No need to get in the car and shuttle clubs around, just walk to the first tee. With the opening of the second nine, May 2005, we are the only 18 hole course in Fillmore County. Everyone enjoys the new challenges it brings. We continue to make improvements to all 18 holes for your enjoyment. We host a couple tournaments of our own - click here for information about them. The facilities include full driving range, practice greens, rental clubs and carts. Be a great host and have your tournament or outing at one of the newest and best maintained 18 hole courses in the area.

Located in the far southeast corner of Minnesota, the Root River Trail has now been completed to Houston, and is 43 miles long. The trail runs along the Root River, which is quite popular with canoeists and inner-tubers. The path goes through Minnesota bluff country, which is some of the most scenic countryside in the state. Some bikers get dropped off in Fountain and are later picked up in Lanesboro, as the west to east direction is mostly down hill. Lanesboro is one of the most picturesque towns on the Root River Trail. There are many little shops and eating places that cater to bicyclists. The Root River is one nice trail!

The JailHouse Inn is the Old Fillmore County Jail built in the Italianate architectural style in 1869. The interior of the Inn has painstakingly been restored to its original Victorian splendor. Many aspects of the interior space have been left as they may have been, including the original curved walnut banister at the front entrance of the Inn. Some of the original seven foot paneled white doors remain from when the purpose of the building was the Fillmore County Jail. Today, the JailHouse Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
